Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Thomas Frieden announced in a press conference late Tuesday that the first U.S. case of Ebola has been found in Texas, with tests positive on specimens from a patient now being cared for in a Dallas hospital.
The patient traveled from Liberia in Africa Sept. 19th, arriving in the U.S. on Sept. 20 and first developed symptoms on Sept. 24 and sought care on Sept. 26. He was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas on Sept. 28 and placed in isolation, Frieden said.
The hospital had announced a day earlier that the patient's symptoms and recent travel indicated a case of Ebola, the virus that has killed more than 3,000 people across West Africa and infected a handful of Americans who have traveled to that region.
