Texas health officials are emphasizing that their aborted contracting process for a state-funded healthcare database was not related to any legal or ethical lapse by the apparent winning bidder, Truven Health Analytics.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission, which oversees the state's Medicaid program, collected and reviewed bids for a long-planned clinical data warehouse intended to improve efficiency and lower costs.
A story published by the Houston Chronicle and picked up by the Associated Press, quoted HHSC Executive Commissioner Dr. Kyle Janek as expressing concern that Truven had the advantage of information leaked from a closed-door commission meeting.
“The story has gotten muddled, so let me be clear: There was no indication whatsoever that any vendor did anything inappropriate or unethical,” Janek said in a statement Thursday, without mentioning Truven by name.
