Former CMS official joins Deloitte's healthcare practice, and other news makers

Danielle Moon, a former top official at the CMS, has joined consulting giant Deloitte's healthcare practice as a federal health policy analyst.

Moon, 42, most recently served as the director of Medicare's Drug and Health Plan Contract Administration Group, a unit responsible for the oversight of the Medicare Advantage program. She also held a top leadership role within the Medicare Enrollment and Appeals Group, which oversees enrollment policies for all Medicare programs. She has more than 17 years of experience working at the CMS and HHS' Office of the Inspector General.

The University of Rochester (N.Y.) has named Dr. Mark Taubman, currently dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, as senior VP for health sciences and CEO of the University of Rochester Medical Center. Taubman, 63, will remain dean and begin his dual roles Jan. 1.

Taubman will succeed Dr. Bradford Berk, who will be leading the university's new Rochester Neurorestorative Institute. Berk suffered a serious spinal cord injury in 2009 that sparked his drive to improve care—in a patient- and family-centric approach—for those with chronic neurological conditions. Taubman, a cardiologist, has been the medical school's dean since March 2010. He came to the medical center as chief of the cardiology unit and as the Paul N. Yu professor of medicine in 2003.

Bart Hove has been named interim president and CEO at Wellmont Health System, the Kingsport, Tenn.-based system that is undergoing a search for a partner.

Hove succeeds Denny DeNarvaez,who resigned this month after four years at the helm.

The system tapped Kaufman Hall & Associates to assist with the partnership search and has narrowed the suitors to three undisclosed not-for-profit systems.

Before joining Wellmont, Hove was CEO of a number of other hospitals in the Southeast, including Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville, Miss.; Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington, Ky.; and Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, Ala.

Oliver Rogers has been named COO at physician-outsourcing firm TeamHealth.

Rogers, 61, has served as TeamHealth's president of hospital-based services since February 2010 and has more than a decade of experience with the company.

The move comes two weeks after TeamHealth, one of the largest providers of emergency medicine physicians, anesthesiologists and hospitalists in the country, officially named Michael Snow CEO. The company has aggressively expanded since Snow took the helm. Since Sept. 2, it has acquired five physician practices and now has more than 10,200 affiliated physicians and providers at 900 hospitals, clinics and physician groups in 46 states.

Cardinal Health, a Dublin, Ohio-based distribution and medical supply company, promoted two executives, naming Michael Kaufmann corporate CFO and Jon Giacomin as CEO of its pharmaceutical segment.

Kaufmann, 51, has served as CEO of Cardinal Health's pharmaceutical segment since 2009. In November he will replace Jeffrey Henderson, who announced in June that he will retire.

Giacomin, 49, previously served as executive VP of pharmaceutical operations at Cardinal.
