David Watson, most recently the global vice president of healthcare product strategy for Oracle Corp., has been named CEO of the California Integrated Data Exchange, the proposed not-for-profit, statewide health information exchange.
Known as Cal INDEX, the San Francisco-based exchange was launched last month with an $80 million commitment from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California.
Watson's appointment is effective immediately.
“David Watson is a leader in healthcare technology and has a broad range of industry, management and technical skills, including a particular expertise in health data privacy and security,” said Cal INDEX Board Chairman Dr. David T. Feinberg in a news release.
“His leadership experience makes him an excellent fit to lead Cal INDEX, which will provide the underlying data and technology platform to improve the quality of care, improve efficiency and reduce the cost of healthcare for all Californians.”
Feinberg is president of UCLA Health System.
Watson previously served as chief technology officer and COO at MedeAnalytics, a healthcare data services company, and as CTO of Kaiser Permanente, the statement said.
