Who: Michael Snow, 59
Current role: President of TeamHealth, one of the largest physician outsourcing firms in the country. Effective Sept. 1, Snow also will become CEO of the Knoxville, Tenn.-based company, replacing Greg Roth, who is retiring.
Physicians' changing outlooks: “Physicians want to be part of something bigger. I think there is a lot of concern among physicians that as they see the hospital industry consolidating, they are going to be left out and alone to negotiate by themselves.”
On physician recruitment and staffing: “The way you attract and retain the best physicians is you compensate them well. You give them opportunities for professional growth. You find good locations for where they want to live. If you do all those things, you're going to surround yourself with good physicians.”
On the Affordable Care Act: “The early indicators are that we're seeing improvement in our payer mix, both in expansion states and nonexpansion states for Medicaid. We saw and have seen a decline in self-pay patients and a commensurate uptick in Medicaid. … We don't attribute all that to ACA. But we do know we're seeing an uptick in volumes.”
