MGMA names Jerard Jensen interim CEO

Jerard Jensen, a healthcare attorney in the Madison, Wis., office of Milwaukee-based Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek, will take over as interim CEO of the Medical Group Management Association when the organization's current leader, Dr. Susan Turney, starts her new position as CEO of the newly formed Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System on Sept. 1.

Jensen, who declined to give his age, has been counsel for the MGMA since 2012. In his 27 years as an attorney, he has worked with hospitals, clinics, physician groups, insurers and industry associations on issues concerning strategy, transactions, operations and finance.

“I am pleased that Jensen will be a part of this process,” Turney said in a news release. “He is familiar with and understands the dynamics of the association.”

Turney practiced internal medicine at the Marshfield Clinic for 22 years and was the CEO and executive VP of the Wisconsin Medical Society when she was chosen to replace Dr. William Jessee as MGMA CEO in 2011. She has been named to Modern Healthcare's 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and Leaders list for each of the past three years.

Based in Englewood, Colo., the MGMA also has an office in Washington and represents more than 33,000 practice administrators. The MGMA will be holding its annual conference Oct. 26-29 in Las Vegas.
