Catholic Health Initiatives continues to expand its brand across the Great Plains as it inks deals with several local healthcare organizations.
CHI announced this week that it has signed an agreement with St. Alexius Medical Center that will make the Bismarck, N.D., hospital a direct affiliate of the Englewood, Colo.-based system.
The not-for-profit Catholic healthcare organization also agreed to form a regional health system including its own hospitals and clinics combined with other providers in central and western North Dakota. That step is planned over the next few years. The direct affiliation agreement, first announced in February, is expected to close by the end of the year, pending state regulatory review and approval.
St. Alexius will continue under its current sponsorship of the Benedictine Sisters of Annunciation Monastery and maintain its local board of directors.
At the same time, Alegent Creighton Health and other CHI facilities in Nebraska are uniting under a new brand known as CHI Health. The newly-named integrated regional system will cover 15 acute-care hospitals and multiple clinics across Nebraska, southwest Iowa and northern Kansas.
Primary and specialty clinics will operate as CHI Health Alegent Creighton Clinic and The Physician Network, while the acute-care facilities will retain their local names coupled with CHI Health. For example, the flagship facility in Omaha, Neb., will be known as CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center.
“Decisions will continue to be made locally, based on individual and community needs,” Dr. Cliff Robertson, CEO of CHI Health, said in a release. He was named CEO of the network in January.
Alegent Creighton Health and CHI Nebraska first began their integration into a single health system in 2013.
