Molina Healthcare names new medical chief

Managed-care insurer Molina Healthcare has named Dr. Keith Wilson chief medical officer.

Wilson, 58, an obstetrician and gynecologist, started his new role of overseeing all medical functions in August. He has been with Long Beach, Calif.-based Molina since March 2013, serving as VP of clinical services for Molina's medical clinics and American Family Care, a subsidiary of the company.

Before joining Molina, Wilson was a regional medical director with Torrance, Calif.-based HealthCare Partners. He also was CEO of Talbert Medical Group in Fountain Valley, Calif., which he helped merge with HealthCare Partners in 2010.

“As our membership grows and we serve more patients with complex medical needs, it is important that we further integrate our efforts with providers,” Molina COO Terry Bayer said in a release. “Dr. Wilson's track record in leading physician practices and caring for sicker patients, in addition to his managed-care experience, will be invaluable.”

Wilson replaced Dr. Richard Sanchez, who retired.

The publicly traded Molina covers 2.3 million people, mostly in Medicaid and Medicare managed-care plans.
