Not-for-profit Catholic system PeaceHealth has appointed Beth O'Brien as its first chief operating officer, effective Sept. 8.
In the newly created position, O'Brien, 65, will manage all operations for the Vancouver, Wash.-based, 10-hospital system. She will work with PeaceHealth President and Chief Mission Officer Alan Yordy, and both will report to PeaceHealth's board of directors.
O'Brien currently serves as a group executive officer within Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives, overseeing all CHI hospitals in Arkansas, Kansas, Maryland, Missouri and Pennsylvania. Before joining CHI, O'Brien served as a managing director with Navigant Consulting. She also has executive-level experience from several health systems around the country, including Baptist Health System, Birmingham, Ala., and Dignity Health, San Francisco.

In PeaceHealth's fiscal year 2013, its operating surplus dropped 71% to $9.8 million, and revenue fell 0.7% to $2.17 billion.
