Jim Skogsbergh, CEO of Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care, will be the next chair-elect of the American Hospital Association.

The AHA's board of trustees elected Skogsbergh, 56, to the role last week. He will begin as board chairman in 2016. Skogsbergh has led 11-hospital Advocate, the largest health system in Illinois, since 2001.

    Hospitals and Health Systems

Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, has made two executive promotions as the academic medical center reorganizes the structure of its adult-care divisions.

Mitchell Edgeworth, 41, has been named COO of Vanderbilt University Hospital and Clinics. Previously, he was COO of Vanderbilt's main hospital. Edgeworth joined the medical center in 2012 and also held leadership roles with Quorum Health Resources.

Robin Steaban, 59, has been named chief nursing officer for the Vanderbilt system. She has been with the medical center since 1990 and most recently served as the system's associate chief nursing officer and chief administrative officer of Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute.

    Freese-Decker

The new positions come as Vanderbilt consolidates leadership teams from its hospitals and clinics into one entity.

Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids, Mich., has named Tina Freese-Decker president of the health system's hospital group and Dr. Seth Wolk chief medical officer.

Freese-Decker, 36, oversees the operations and growth of Spectrum's 11 hospitals and other care sites. She previously was Spectrum's senior VP and chief strategy officer, and also has served as president of two Spectrum hospitals. She has been with Spectrum since 2002.

Wolk, 57, a vascular surgeon, will assume the CMO position Aug. 4. He will retain his current role as president of Spectrum Health Medical Group, a position he's held since March.

    Eichorn

Mountain States Health Alliance, Johnson City, Tenn., has named Marvin Eichorn executive VP and COO. Lynn Krutak will become CFO, replacing Eichorn.

Eichorn, 58, has served as the health system's CFO for 16 years. Before joining Mountain States, he was executive VP at Covenant Health, Knoxville, Tenn., for 14 years.

Krutak, 45, has held various finance positions at the system for 19 years, most recently as CFO for Mountain States' Blue Ridge Medical Management Corp. for the past five years.

Also, the system has created a clinical services division to help engage physicians in quality-improvement efforts. It will be led by Dr. Morris Seligman, 58, Mountain States' executive VP and chief medical officer. He has been CMO for more than four years.

    Physicians

Dr. Craig Samitt, CEO of HealthCare Partners, the Torrance, Calif.-based division of DaVita HealthCare Partners, will step down Aug. 1. DaVita CEO Kent Thiry will assume responsibility for the division, according to the company.

Samitt started with HealthCare Partners in August 2013 as executive VP before being named CEO this past March. Dialysis giant DaVita acquired HealthCare Partners in 2012. The division manages and operates medical groups and affiliated physician networks in Arizona, California, Florida, New Mexico and Nevada.
