Loma Linda (Calif.) University Health has launched a $1.2 billion capital plan titled Vision 2020, which by the year 2020 will rebuild two facilities, and create a new research center and a new wellness facility.
Vision 2020 “is the focus of Loma Linda University Health's strategy for the health of the community and the world, by building on our foundations of education, research, clinical care, wholeness and service,” spokesman Herbert Atienza wrote in an email.
The largest projects in the plan will be a new 276-bed acute-care hospital and a 100-bed tower for LLUH's children's hospital. The construction will allow the health system to meet California's mandated seismic and safety standards, Atienza said.
LLUH also will build a new research facility called the Loma Linda University Health Center for Discovery. The new Wholeness Institute will focus on prevention and wellness research to combat chronic diseases.
The health system will pay for the capital plan through government funding, loans and fundraising. Dennis Troesh, founder of a concrete company, and his wife, Carol, an author, already have committed $100 million to LLUH's campaign.
In fiscal 2013, Loma Linda University Medical Center, the flagship and dominant component of the system, reported a total surplus of $101.1 million on almost $1.3 billion in revenue.
