Corizon Health, a for-profit provider of healthcare services at prisons, has named Scott Bowers president and COO, effective Aug. 4.
Most recently, Bowers, 43, was president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Tennessee, a Medicaid managed-care plan within UnitedHealth Group. He also served as president and CEO of UnitedHealthcare's mid-Atlantic subsidiary.
“Scott is a highly regarded healthcare professional who understands our mission and will help us fulfill it,” Corizon CEO Dr. Woodrow Myers Jr. said in a news release.
Corizon, based in Brentwood, Tenn., and predominantly backed by private-equity firm Beecken Petty O'Keefe & Co., provides healthcare to inmates in more than 550 prisons across the country. In fiscal 2013, the company had about $1.2 billion in revenue, according to Moody's Investors Service.
