Dr. Maryellen Gusic has been named chief medical education officer of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Gusic will start her position Oct. 1. In her new role, she will examine and oversee all issues related to medical education. She replaces Dr. Carol Aschenbrener, who is retiring.
Gusic, a board-certified pediatrician, will join the AAMC from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where she has served as a professor of pediatrics and executive associate dean for educational affairs since 2010. Before coming to Indiana University, Gusic was associate dean of clinical education and associate professor of pediatrics at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa.
“I am honored to join the AAMC leadership team and look forward to collaborating with colleagues across mission areas to address academic medicine's biggest challenges,” Gusic said in a news release.
