Dr. Carolyn Clancy, the former longtime director of the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, has been named interim undersecretary for health at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Clancy, who joined the VA in August 2013, will assume her new duties on July 2. Clancy currently serves as the VA's assistant deputy health undersecretary for quality, safety and value.
Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson said last week that Clancy will lead efforts to expand veterans' access to medical care as well as reduce lengthy waiting lists of veterans seeking appointments.
Clancy, an internist, was named AHRQ's director in February 2003 and was reappointed in October 2009. She first joined AHRQ in 1990 and previously served as director of its Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research.
