Crista Durand has been appointed the next president of Newport (R.I.) Hospital, effective Aug. 1.
Durand, 43, serves as VP of strategic planning, marketing and business development at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., a role she's held since 2009. She also has several years of financial experience, previously working as CFO of Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam, Conn.
In a statement, Durand said she plans to focus on physician recruitment, service-line development and patient satisfaction when she arrives at the hospital. She will replace interim President Arthur Sampson, who also serves as president of The Miriam Hospital, Providence, R.I.
The 124-bed Newport Hospital is part of Providence-based Lifespan, the state's largest health system.
