Brooks-LaSure has worked closely on healthcare reform for the past eight years. From 2007 to 2010, she helped draft provisions of the ACA as a staff member of the House Ways and Means Committee. She then became director of coverage policy in HHS' Office of Health Reform.

Several other top healthcare leaders within President Barack Obama's administration have left their posts this year. Most notably, Kathleen Sebelius announced she was resigning as HHS secretary in April. Jonathan Blum stepped down as CMS principal deputy administrator in May, and Michael Hash, director of HHS' Office of Health Reform, also left his post in May.
