Pamela Cipriano has been elected president of the American Nurses Association, effective immediately.
Cipriano serves as a senior director at consulting firm Galloway Advisory by iVantage. Previously, she served as chief clinical officer and chief nursing officer at the University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville. Cipriano also was the first editor-in-chief of American Nurse Today, the official journal of the ANA.
Elected this past weekend at the ANA's annual assembly, Cipriano called the move the “most impressive honor” in her career. She replaces Karen Daley, who had been president of the ANA since 2010.
