Dr. Peter Person, CEO of Essentia Health, announced he will retire in 2015.
Person, 63, an internal medicine physician, has served as the top executive of Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia since its creation in 2004. Essentia was initially formed through the integration of Benedictine Health System and SMDC Health System. The organization has continued to expand and now has 18 hospitals and 66 clinics. In fiscal 2013, which ended last June, Essentia posted a $29.4 million operating surplus on $1.65 billion of revenue.
“Essentia Health exists today because of Peter's vision and leadership,” Essentia Health Board Chairman Richard Blair said in a statement. “You really can't overstate the role Peter played in building this health system.”
