Healthcare revenue cycle and business process management firm Intermedix Corp. has acquired the medical billing unit of T-System, the companies have announced.
Terms were undisclosed.
The transaction does not affect the rest of T-System's health information technology or clinical coding operations.
Dallas-based T-System—founded in 1989 as a medical documentation company specializing in emergency room record generation—added medical billing in June 2012 with the acquisition of Marina Medical Billing Service, a 30-year-old Cerritos, Calif.-based provider of billing and coding services for emergency departments.
“After thoughtful deliberations about what is best for our clients, employees and overall business, we made the decision to sell the billing business,” said Mark Horner, T-System’s senior vice president and general manager for its revenue cycle unit, in a news release.
“Intermedix has a record of strong leadership in emergency medicine revenue-cycle management, and we are confident that they will deliver a positive client experience.”
Intermedix, based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., offers an array of business services, including practice management, human resources, shift scheduling, accounting, legal services, strategic planning—and with the acquisition—billing.
