Geisinger Health System is one step closer to expanding its reach beyond its native Pennsylvania. The Danville, Pa.-based provider has signed a definitive agreement to absorb Atlantic City, N.J.-based AtlantiCare.
AtlantiCare, a system consisting of a multi-campus teaching hospital, signed a letter of intent with Geisinger in November. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wendy Wilson, a spokeswoman for Geisinger, said at the time that the deal was neither an acquisition nor a merger, but called it an “integration” that is part of Geisinger's “growth strategy.”
