In response to executives' compensation being significantly higher than that of the M.D. or R.N. or the actual caregiver who generates revenue for the facility: The execs are simply an overhead expense. It is a shame they can't be capitalized and amortized like a piece of equipment.
I have been in the business of healthcare for over 34 years and have been to the level of the execs and felt guilty for the compensation. Stock options and bonuses awarded to those at the top for simply having the title is disgraceful and a reason the costs of healthcare are so high. Not to mention the executive compensation at the support industries: medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, disposable products, wholesalers and distributors, etc. This includes the insurance company execs as well.
