Pharmaceutical services firm Quintiles is expanding its electronic health-record capabilities with its planned acquisition of Houston-based Encore Health Resources. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Encore is a five-year-old, roughly 300-employee company that provides implementation and advisory services for EHR systems.
“Today's announcement signifies the increasing importance of leveraging EHR and real-world information to inform our customers and improve their probability of success,” Quintiles CEO Tom Pike said. “Encore has significant EHR expertise, strong relationships with many large U.S. provider networks and academic medical centers as well as experienced consultants, proven tools and methodologies. It will be a key strategic addition for our business that will extend our services suite and allow us to work with Encore to strengthen its provider-focused solutions.”
Research Triangle Park, N.C.-based Quintiles, with 29,000 employees in roughly 100 countries, bills itself as the world's largest pharmaceutical services company. It works with clients to test experimental drugs and analyze test results. “We have helped develop or commercialize all of the top 50 best-selling drugs on the market,” it said in its announcement of the Encore deal earlier this week.
The union, assuming various regulatory approvals are granted, is set to close later this quarter. Once completed, the former Encore will become part of Quintiles' Integrated Healthcare Services segment and become known as Encore, a Quintiles Company.
