Medical directors' pay often tied to quality metrics, MGMA survey finds

Nearly half of medical directors say that their compensation is tied to quality metrics, according to a new survey conducted by the Medical Group Management Association.

Forty-four percent of the 1,621 medical directors who participated told the MGMA that the scope of their duties and responsibilities was tied to metrics such as patient satisfaction, quality of care and patient safety. The association's survey included data from 227 medical organizations.

This is up from the 39% of medical directors who said their duties and responsibilities were related to quality metrics in last year's survey.

“Incorporating quality metrics into medial directors' duties and compensation underscores practices' commitment to serving their communities,” Dr. Susan Turney, MGMA's president and CEO, said in a statement.

Medical directors also cited the CMS' core measure, compliance, patient readmissions, and staff and provider satisfaction as other metrics.
