Previous positions: VP of business diversity outreach at Prudential Financial, chief diversity officer for Home Depot, and the first VP of diversity for Cingular Wireless. Goins also founded and served as president of consulting firm Brilliant Ideas, with clients that included the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, Hyundai and Kent State University.
Common themes: “No matter what industry or company, the common tissue that binds all organizations together is the need and ability to address, support and manage the ever-changing population. It's a truism that exists across every organization.” She said what's driving the focus on diversity are the changing population demographics, in terms of ethnic and racial composition, age and generational attitudes.
Healthcare challenges: “Healthcare and Bon Secours are unique because where other industries may have already gone through several changes and evolutions, we're very much in the throes of very dynamic changes for the healthcare industry in terms of how services are expected, delivered and paid for…. Being a chief diversity officer in healthcare versus financial services isn't more difficult. It's just a different way of approaching the work.”
