Who: Elizabeth “Liz” Concordia, 50
Appointed to: President and CEO of University of Colorado Health. She begins her new role Sept. 2.
Departing from: UPMC, a 20-hospital system based in Pittsburgh, where Concordia is one of four executive VPs and president of its $7.4 billion hospital and community services division. She joined UPMC in 2001 and was previously executive VP and COO for Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore.
How systems compare: “UPMC is a much larger organization and has its own health plan and has focused on taking risk from a population-management perspective. UCHealth is a 2-year-old system that really has been focused on integrating that organization. … It's not quite as large as UPMC and does not have a health plan.”
On her new role: “It's a new health system that's focused on building the delivery system for the future, which means growing market share, getting into the ambulatory arena, as well as looking at population health.” UCHealth also serves a community with a growing population, operates with strong finances and has an academic medical center, she said.
On her career: “It's an exciting opportunity to be the CEO. It's a natural next step for me. ... Many of the things that UPMC has accomplished are the envy of a lot of organizations across the country.”
