Vermont is taking steps to fight the increase in abuse of prescription pain drugs. The state's Board of Medical Practice recently revised its policy to recommend providers who write prescriptions review a patient's history for signs of mental health and substance-abuse issues, and check the state's drug-monitoring database before writing prescriptions for pain drugs.
