Limits on cancer center access just tip of the iceberg, and other letters

Regarding “Denying access to big cancer centers may undermine narrow networks”, don't stop now! The article on restricted access to cancer care is the tip of the iceberg.

Just as with cancer patients, health plans omit other small populations with severe needs. Systems that care for large indigent groups, as well as the sickest of the sick, are being told the same thing their cancer-care providers are hearing. It's all about cost. The worst surprise is for parents seeking care for their kids in a time of need.

Regarding the story “CMS reveals Medicare physician pay data”, this transparency is long overdue. Taxpayers/patients are entitled to know where, why and how much of their taxes are being billed by professionals who do business with the Medicare reimbursement system.

The best method for reducing costs is to allow free competitive enterprise, engaged in by the taxpayer. They will bring the cost of healthcare down simply by their choices.

Regarding “ICD-10 delay puts pressure on CMS for answers”: I think that no matter when they mandate implementation of ICD-10, all payers should be required to provide end-to-end testing at least three to six months prior to the implementation date.

Healthcare providers should not be left in the dark concerning when and/or if they will be reimbursed for services rendered. Since billing and coding policies and guidelines vary from payer to payer, it is completely unfair to require that providers just begin billing without knowing what the payers will ultimately require for ICD-10 claim submissions.
