More than 94% of the 5,011 eligible U.S. hospitals have registered for federal electronic health-record incentive payment programs under Medicare, Medicaid or both, while slightly more than 90% of those hospitals have shared in nearly $14.2 billion in EHR incentive payments, according to the latest federal data.
The programs, created under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also have enrolled more than 88% of the estimated 527,200 eligible physicians and other professionals, of whom two thirds have been paid a total of nearly $7.5 billion.
About $4.4 billion has been paid to physicians and other EPs under Medicare, about 59.4% of total expenditures for them; $2.7 billion under Medicaid (36.3%), and $315.7 million (4.2%) under Medicare Advantage.
