CHIME sees new executive VP/chief strategy officer April 1, and other moves

Keith Fraidenburg is slated to become the executive VP/chief strategy officer at the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives effective April 1.

The position is a new one as CHIME transitions operational functions from an outside management firm to an in-house staffing model, the college said in a release on his appointment. CHIME serves CIOs and other senior healthcare IT leaders.

Fraidenburg has worked for the college's outside management company for 16 years. In his new role within Ann Arbor, Mich.-based CHIME, he will oversee education services, public policy programs, business development, strategic planning and performance management.

Compassion & Choices, a Denver-based advocacy group focused on end-of-life care, hired Daniel Wilson to join its Washington-based staff as national and federal programs director.

Wilson, 37, came to the not-for-profit organization in February from his role at the National Caucus and Center on Black Aged, also in Washington. There, he served as director of policy and program development. Wilson's background also includes experience as a public affairs officer in the White House Office of Management and Budget, as well as stints as a staff assistant and regional finance coordinator under Democratic senators.

David Morlock is now CEO of the University of Toledo (Ohio) Medical Center, in addition to already serving as executive VP of finance and administration at the University of Toledo.

Morlock, 48, has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, higher education and finance. Before coming to the university, Morlock was most recently a senior VP at Chicago-based revenue-cycle management and consulting firm Accretive Health. Before that, he served as CFO and senior associate director at the University of Michigan Health System.

Morlock has been with the University of Toledo since September when he took on the role of executive VP. He was then asked to assume the additional responsibilities as CEO for hospitals and health centers, coinciding with the departure of the medical school's executive dean, Dr. Jeffery Gold, who recently accepted a position as head of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha.

Margaret Peterson has been named president of Dignity Health-California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Peterson, a registered nurse who also holds a Ph.D. in administration, most recently was CEO of Desert Valley Hospital and Desert Valley Medical Group in Victorville, Calif., where she led expansion efforts that included the opening of a comprehensive heart center. Before that, she was CEO of Victor Valley Community Hospital, Victorville, Calif., and Simi Valley (Calif.) Hospital and Health Care Services.

Thomas Miller has been named CIO at health insurance giant WellPoint, effective May 1.

Miller will oversee information technology initiatives across the Indianapolis-based company's entire operations. He comes to the insurance world from the food and beverage industry, and previously served as senior VP and CIO for Coca Cola Refreshments as well as the concurrent role of CIO for Coca Cola's North America Group. His responsibilities included working on consumer-facing technologies, such as digital marketing, social media and loyalty programs.
