Leapfrog reported more than 1,400 hospitals responded to its annual survey last year. Data from that and other surveys will be involved in the partnership, according to a release.
Castlight, which sells price transparency products and services to self-insured employers' systems, will take its first look at Leapfrog data on early elective deliveries and infections. It will provide an analysis of the survey data nationwide, by region and by each of 28 survey metrics, according to the release.
The Castlight analysis, including graphics, will be part of a Leapfrog report this spring evaluating hospitals on quality and safety.
"We are honored to partner with The Leapfrog Group on this important initiative,” said Dr. Jennifer Schneider, vice president of strategic analytics for San Francisco-based Castlight. “It is exciting that our analytics work can inform a new report based on the 2013 Leapfrog hospital survey results – the only data of its kind that is collected and publicly reported by individual hospitals."
Castlight's shares debuted Friday morning on the New York Stock Exchange with an offering price of $16, and were quickly bid up to close at $39.80. Castlight shares were trading around $34.50 Tuesday.
When Leapfrog began its CPOE campaign, only a tiny fraction of U.S. hospitals outside the Veterans Affairs and Defense Departments and the Indian Health Service had EHRs with CPOE. Today, an overwhelming majority of hospitals have CPOE-equipped EHRs.
