Joseph Wilczek, Franciscan Health System CEO and Catholic Health Initiatives' senior VP for divisional operations, will retire next January.
Wilczek, 67, has more than 40 years of healthcare administration experience, including 16 as CEO for Tacoma, Wash.-based Franciscan. During Wilczek's tenure, the system grew from three hospitals to nine and built a clinic network of more than 100 facilities. CHI said it expects to name a new chief executive for Franciscan by year's end.
Cone Health CEO Tim Rice has announced that he will retire at the end of the year.
Rice, 59, initially joined Cone Health as a pharmacist nearly 36 years ago. Since then, he has held various leader-ship roles with the Greensboro, N.C.-based health system before being named president and CEO in 2004.
Terry Akin, Cone Health COO since 2009 and president since 2012, will succeed Rice as CEO on Jan. 1, 2015.
