Gerard van Grinsven was named president and CEO of Cancer Treatment Centers of America, a privately owned five-hospital healthcare company founded in 1988. In an interview with Modern Healthcare reporter Andis Robeznieks, Van Grinsven describes his career path from executive roles with Ritz-Carlton Hotels and hotel groups in Asia, Europe and the Middle East to Henry Ford Health System in Detroit. Before joining CTCA he led the design and construction of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and was its president and CEO. He also explains the company's recent move from a Chicago suburb to Boca Raton, Fla., and responds to criticisms that CTCA raises false hopes in its advertising and that its impressive patient outcomes are inflated by cherry-picked patients.
