Talks to consolidate three Boston-area hospitals have collapsed amid disputes over who would run the combined organization and serve on its board, the Boston Globe reported Saturday.
Boston-area hospital merger talks collapse
The merger would have combined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with Lahey Health and Atrius Health, an alliance of non-profit physician groups. The three were pursuing the possible combination in an effort to compete with Partners HealthCare System and Steward Health Care System, the two dominant players in the eastern half of Massachusetts, the paper reported.
The talks' end was disclosed in an e-mail to one of the hospital's employees, the Globe said. The hospitals declined to comment.
