UC Health names Hayes CEO of Memorial Hospital

In a leadership realignment of University of Colorado Health, George Hayes was named the new president and CEO of the system's Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hayes, 58, has held the same post at UC Health's Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colo., since 2004.

Dan Rieber, 43, UC Health VP of finance and controller, has been named interim CFO at Memorial, which is owned by the city of Colorado Springs and is operated by UC Health under a long-term lease agreement approved by voters in an Aug. 2012 referendum.

In tandem with those moves, Michael Scialdone, who had led Memorial since September 2012, and Memorial CFO Tracy Narvet both resigned effective Jan. 17.

The executive shuffle comes as the system remains under the leadership of interim President and CEO Dr. William Neff, who assumed the role last year after the departure of Rulon Stacey, who was president, and Bruce Schroffel, who was CEO.

UC Health also announced that Kevin Unger, 44, president and CEO of Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins since 2005, will also serve as president and CEO at the Medical Center of the Rockies. The facilities previously operated as a two-hospital system before joining with University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora to form UC Health in 2012.

Named as an Up & Comer in healthcare management by Modern Healthcare in 2007, Unger has a longtime relationship with Poudre Valley Hospital. Not only did he start working there in 2001, he was born at the hospital in 1969.
