Kerry Weems named CEO of TwinMed

Former acting CMS Administrator Kerry Weems is the new CEO of TwinMed, a national distributor of medical supplies and services based in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.

Weems, 57, joined the company Dec. 16 as TwinMed co-founder and former CEO Steve Rechnitz moved to the role of executive chairman, effective the same date. Steve Rechnitz, 42, along with his brother Shlomo Rechnitz, founded TwinMed in 1998, which now acts as the primary supplier to more than 2,500 skilled-nursing facilities, according to a news release.

“Mr. Weems joins TwinMed at an important time for our organization. His executive skills and his passion for long-term care make him a strong voice for an industry under constant budgetary and cost pressures,” Steve Rechnitz said in the release.

Weems' career includes 28 years with the federal government in multiple senior-level positions with HHS, including deputy chief of staff, chief budget officer and CFO. He was appointed acting CMS administrator in 2007 by former President George W. Bush and left the post when President Barack Obama assumed office in January 2009. Weems also once served as vice chairman of the American Health Information Community. Most recently, Weems served as VP and general manager for the health solutions sector of General Dynamics Information Technology, Fairfax, Va.
