Ex-HHS chief Thompson quits CareView chairman post; Johnson tapped as CEO

CareView Communications, which provides healthcare facilities with technologyfor both bedside video monitoring and patient entertainment, is starting the new year with several changes to its management and board of directors.

Steven Johnson, formerly the president, secretary and treasurer, is becoming CEO, replacing Samuel Greco, who has served as CEO of the Lewisville, Texas-based company since September 2007. Greco retired at the end of 2013. He will continue to act as a consultant for CareView in 2014.

Johnson also previously filled the role of COO. Sandra McRee took that position effective Nov. 1. Before joining CareView, McRee was COO of Iasis Healthcare, the acute-care hospital operator based in Franklin, Tenn.

CareView's board is also experiencing a change as its chairman, Tommy Thompson, the former head of HHS and longtime Wisconsin governor, resigned Dec. 31. Thompson will continue to work with the company in a business development role, focusing on hospital sales. His son, Jason Thompson, a CPA and an attorney with Michael Best & Friedrich, took a seat on the board, effective Jan. 1.

Tommy Thompson in mid-December became chairman and a board member of Richmond, Va.-based HealthcarePays, a healthcare payments network.

"It makes little sense that the U.S. has no overarching healthcare industry payment network to check for fraud and authorize payments by examining all the payments in the system, similar to what is in place in our financial services sector. I'm joining HealthcarePays to establish the first industry-owned network of this kind,” Tommy Thompson said in a Dec. 18 statement regarding his new position.

Also effective Jan. 1, the CareView board of directors elected David White, previously CEO of Iasis, to a seat on the board as Allen Wheeler, co-founder of CareView, becomes chairman. Wheeler has been serving as vice chairman.
