“As a physician executive, Cliff has diverse management and business experience and a clear grasp of the opportunities and challenges ahead,” Michael Rowan, Catholic Health Initiatives executive VP and COO, said in a news release. “He is deeply committed to the purpose of this network, which is to serve individuals and communities in Nebraska, southwest Iowa and northern Kansas to improve health in the region through an emphasis on education, healing, research and wellness.”
The combined operations, based in Omaha, will include 16 hospitals, two stand-alone inpatient behavioral health facilities and more than 150 employed physician-practice locations in Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Alegent Creighton Health, which operates 11 hospitals, was formed when Alegent acquired Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha from Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. and Creighton University in 2012.
Richard Hachten of Alegent Creighton Health and Robert Lanik of Catholic Health Initiatives' Nebraska health ministries, now co-CEOs of the network, will work with Robertson during the leadership transition before retiring in 2014.
