Dr. Margo Hilliard Alford, an executive with Harris Health System, is retiring Dec. 27 after 25 years with the Houston-based organization.
Hilliard Alford, a pediatrician, first joined Harris Health System in 1988 as administrator of Jefferson Davis Hospital. She then spent 17 years as the first administrator of the healthcare system's Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. Most recently, Hilliard Alford, 69, served as senior VP of Harris Health System's Community Health and Wellness, while also continuing an appointment as assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, or UTHealth.
Steven Burkett is Erlanger Health System's new senior VP of physician services. Burkett, 62, joined Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger on Dec. 2. He most recently was CEO of the Burkett Group, a Memphis, Tenn.-based consulting firm that he founded.
Dr. Loren Hughes became president of HSHS Medical Group, a new position with the affiliate of Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System, effective Dec. 9. Hughes, 57, previously was medical director for the Southern Illinois division of the medical group, which includes 250 physicians and other clinicians.
W. Peter Daniels, who merged himself out of a job as CEO of Elmhurst (Ill.) Memorial Healthcare this year, has been named COO of hospital-based services at the Cook County (Ill.) Health & Hospitals System. He is tasked with improving inpatient care from the emergency room to the maternity ward at the financially challenged health system. Daniels, 59, also is in charge of outpatient care at Cook County Health's two hospitals. After negotiations broke down with Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Elmhurst began talks with Edward Hospital and Health Services. Daniels resigned from Elmhurst Memorial in March before a binding deal was reached. Elmhurst Memorial became part of Naperville, Ill.-based Edward on July 1.
