Second victim dies in Texas hospital stabbing

A second person has died from injuries suffered in a stabbing attack last week at an East Texas hospital.

Harris Teel was one of four people wounded on the morning of Nov. 26 when a man began attacking people with a knife at Good Shepherd Medical Center's ambulatory surgical center in Longview. He died early Thursday morning.

According to a blog posted by Teel's son-in-law two days after the attack, Teel was stabbed in the heart while in the waiting room of the surgery center, where his son was undergoing a procedure.

Nurse Gail Sandidge died the day of the attack, and Good Shepherd CEO Steve Altmiller said she was fatally injured while trying to protect her patients.

The alleged attacker was 22-year-old Kyron Templeton, whose mother was having surgery that day. He was arrested soon after the attack and has been charged with murder and assault.

“On behalf of the family, we are sad to inform you that Harris K. Teel passed away at 3:25 a.m. Thursday,” Good Shepherd spokeswoman Victoria Ashworth said in an e-mailed statement. “His family was at his side in prayer. While the family never gave up, they accept this outcome and appreciate the thoughts and prayers of so many during this time of tragedy and loss. At this time, they request and appreciate their privacy as they grieve.”

Ashworth said Teel was the last of the wounded who remained in the hospital. A second employee, Karen Bobo, was wounded but was treated and released within a day of the incident.
