New York state officials said they will review contracts between State University of New York's Upstate Medical University and one of its contractors after the president of the state-run institution said he will resign amid an investigation of his finances.
SUNY said it is investigating compensation that a contractor promised to Dr. David Smith, former president of Upstate Medical University, which operates the 617-bed Upstate University Hospital.
State comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said his office will audit a $22 million contract for MedBest Medical Management to provide technical support for the Syracuse hospital's electronic health-record system. Reports of the relationship between Smith and MedBest “raised significant red flags,” DiNapoli said.
