Dr. William Shrank has been appointed as the first chief scientific officer and chief medical officer of provider innovation and analytics at Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Caremark Corp.
Previously, Shrank, whose age was not provided, practiced with Brigham Internal Medicine Associates in Boston and served as an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He was also director of research and rapid-cycle evaluation for the CMS' Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.
Shrank's research has focused on patient medication adherence, pharmacy benefit design, and the distribution of free samples.
At CVS, he will work on developing pharmacy solutions for improving care for distinct patient populations and developing new methods of evaluating programs and initiatives, a news release said.
“Will's depth of experience as a researcher makes him uniquely qualified to oversee our research agenda," Dr. Troyen Brennan, executive vice president and chief medical officer of CVS Caremark, said in the release. “His insights and expertise will enable us to continue to develop new solutions to improve care and quality for patients dealing with chronic disease.”
