For a one-time fee of $25—or $4.95 a month for one year for unlimited access—patients can solicit physician bids for treatments ranging from annual physicals to major elective surgeries. The free market-oriented site, which launched in 2010, brands itself as a transparent resource that self-pay patients and patients with health savings accounts can use to shop around for the best deal.
MediBid charges physicians an annual fee of $250 for unlimited bidding privileges and touts its site as a place where docs can find “cash-paying patients” and skirt insurance companies that “underpay and take months to do so.”
