One of the likely effects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will be much higher demand for primary-care physicians. Innovative use of technology including medical kiosks, e-mail consultations and patient portals can help ease the burden until we can train and license more physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
