The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange is compiling its next snapshot of how much work providers, payers and insurers have to do with less than a year to go before the deadline for the massive conversion to the ICD-10 diagnostic and procedural codes.
WEDI's status survey on the ICD-10 implementation will remain open through Nov. 1.
The results of the last survey weren't pretty. About half of the vendors surveyed in February said they were less than halfway there with ICD-10 product development. About half of the health plans participating said they'd completed impact assessments and gap analyses. More than 40% of providers indicated that they didn't know when they'd complete their assessments and begin external testing.
In 2012, the CMS pushed back its ICD-10 compliance deadline by one year a few weeks after a WEDI survey revealed how difficult it would be for the industry to meet it. The agency has remained firm, however, on Oct. 1, 2014, for the conversion.
