“As CHI's research and innovation arm, CIRI plays a critical role in CHI's mission to advance health in the communities we serve,” CHI's President and CEO Kevin Lofton said in a news release. “I am pleased that David will bring his expertise to this important work. He has a unique career combination of high-level management practice, research and teaching.”
Fine has more than three decades of experience as CEO of university hospitals, hospital systems, medical groups and managed-care organizations, and has also held university teaching and research positions for much of his career. The institute, founded in 2007, includes a team of experts in research and innovation, business development, information technology, finance, compliance and legal matters to help provide treatments, devices and clinical protocols to system affiliates.
As Fine leaves his current role at St. Luke's, Dr. Cliff Robertson, COO of CHI's Franciscan Health System, Tacoma, Wash., will step in as interim CEO. Robertson, who brings more than 15 years of business leadership experience, joined CHI in 1995 as a family physician and became COO of Franciscan in 2009.
