John Squire has been named president and COO of Amazing Charts, a North Kingstown, R.I.-based electronic health-record developer. He replaces the company's founder, Dr. Jonathan Bertman, who sold the company last November to Pri-Med, a Boston-based medical education division of Diversified Business Communications.
Most recently, Squire was the senior director of alliances and cloud strategy for Microsoft's U.S. health and life sciences business unit, and previously worked for IBM.
Squire's appointment signals a new focus for the company toward cloud computing and using data analytics to improve outcomes, according to a news release in which Squires said the company will “ultimately reimagine the EHR as we know it.”
“I am really excited to have this opportunity to lead Amazing Charts, a dynamic company with the foundation of software designed by a family physician for his peers,” Squire said in the release. “Amazing Charts will continue to serve the true champion of today's healthcare system—the independent, small-practice clinician.”
Bertman was named Modern Physician's Physician Entrepreneur of the Year in 2010.
Last month, Pri-Med named Dr. Mark Evans medical director. Evans was the American Medical Association's director of healthcare education products and standards, and he also served as director of education and training for the AMA's AMAGINE online physician portal, which was acquired by AT&T last February.
