Eric Beyer, president and CEO of Tufts Medical Center in Boston, resigned Thursday.
The 284-bed academic medical center named Dr. Michael Wagner, president and CEO of the Tufts Medical Center Physicians Organization, interim CEO and asked Ellen Zane, vice chair and former Tufts Medical Center president and CEO, to help with strategic planning and implementation.
Beyer stepped down to “pursue other opportunities,” the organization said. He has served as president and CEO since October 2011.
“During his two years as CEO and five years at the Physicians Organization, Eric led many critical operational and strategic initiatives,” Tufts Medical Center Board Chairman Thomas Hollister said in the news release. “He was a valuable contributor to building our physician practice network.”
Tufts is the principal teaching hospital for the Tufts University School of Medicine.
