Norton Healthcare's 263-bed Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville and University of Kentucky HealthCare's (Lexington) Kentucky Children's Hospital, plan to enter a joint-operating agreement.
The hospitals will remain independent, with separate bylaws, medical staff and rules, according to a letter of intent. Officials from both hospitals will review the partnership plan over the next three to four months.
Kentucky Children's Hospital is a hospital within a hospital, part of 524-bed University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington. Norton and UK said the partnership would allow them to build on a previously announced plan to form a statewide network of perinatal and neonatal providers, and they said it would help them attract and retain physicians.
