Orange Health Solutions acquires ExtendMD

Orange Health Solutions, which provides administrative and management services for providers in accountable care organizations and other coordinated-care models, has acquired medical technology company ExtendMD.

Orange Health will take over ExtendMD's communication software, which allows chronic patients to send their “at-home” readings regarding their conditions directly to their physicians.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Orange Health plans to integrate the company's software into its platform. The new system will allow patients treated by Orange Health clients to self-monitor their conditions and share that information with their doctors, according to the company.

“As the gap between consumerism and healthcare continues to close, we believe it is crucial to position the Orange service platform to take advantage of emerging patient self-monitoring and decision-support tools, and direct patient-doctor communication platforms,” Orange Health CEO Howard Buff said in a news release. “Our acquisition of ExtendMD's assets helps us deliver those tools and experiences to our customers.”

The move is the latest effort on behalf of Orange Health to further broaden its technological footprint. In May, Orange Health announced it was partnering with information technology firm Sandlot Solutions to use that company's management software for Orange Health subsidiary Orange Accountable Care.
