New COO at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and other moves

Ed Lovern is the new COO of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Lovern, 49, has been with the Piedmont Healthcare system since 2002, most recently as executive VP and chief administrative officer for the system. Lovern is replacing Dr. William Knopf as COO. The appointment was effective July 29. Prior to joining Piedmont, Lovern was Washington bureau chief of Modern Healthcare. ... Mercy Health, a division of Cincinnati-based Catholic Health Partners, has named Dr. Dan Roth chief medical officer. For the past two years, Roth, 43, has served as president of Mercy Health Physicians, and he will continue in that capacity along with his new role. He replaces Dr. Leonard Randolph Jr., who spent eight years as CMO and will move on to a new role with CHP where he will aid the 23-hospital system in improving and streamlining the credentialing process. Roth is credited with expanding Mercy Health Physicians, a physician-led group that serves southwest Ohio. The organization earned the No. 1 spot last year on Healthcare's Hottest, Modern Healthcare's list of the fast-growing companies in the industry. … David Rothenberger will join Health Management Associates' Arkansas operations as CFO for Sparks Health System in Fort Smith, Ark., and Summit Medical Center in Van Buren, Ark. Rothenberger, 50, previously was the company's Arkansas market CFO before serving as HMA's division CFO for hospitals in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee and Washington. At Sparks and Summit, he replaces Richard Boone, who was promoted in April to oversee operations and finance for the company's Southern and Western Group.

Intermedix Corp., which offers practice management and revenue-cycle management services to healthcare providers, public health agencies and emergency management personnel, has hired Michael Wallace as CFO, effective Aug. 1. Wallace, 44, joins the Fort Lauderdale-based company with more than two decades of financial executive experience in areas that include healthcare, software development and interactive marketing. Most recently, he served as CFO of Margate, Fla., marketing company Elephant Group and Radiology Corp. of America in Boca Raton, Fla.
